I have trouble to apply the patches against 1.4.4.2i or 1.5.12. The hunks fails relatively early even. Are there known issues at the moment?

Cheers.

PS, good to know the project is not dead.

Nice to hear, I couldn't live without my sidebar patch and would not have the patience to maintain it.

I was wondering... is their any "documentation" for the other patches around, or would this be obtained by just searching the mailing list for the individual patches I suppose? I checked the patches for any existing comments but I couldn't see anything.

I think it's incredibly irritating for a project like this needing to exist, but I'm pleased to hear that you're continuing with it with a less hassling way!
Good to here that the project goes on. The author cares about consorting resources and goals with is a good thing.
Since there is a radically different approach maybe the name of the project should change too in order to avoid confusion which doc belongs to which bit of code?
What about muttm = "mutt iMprouved" following vim?
Thanks for clarifying. I understand that it may be difficult to promote mutt-ng as a whole new project, whereas we users basically need an improved mutt.

However please keep distributing tarballs of mutt-ng, even if you are using the mutt codebase. That will make it easier for ports and packages maintainers of various *nix flavours I think.

What I understand from your post is that you won't be splitting mutt-ng into a library and a program, ie not rewrite anything but creating a patchset against mutt from the current mutt-ng code.

Well, I will try, but I doubt they will integrate any of patches, or at least the relevant ones. That has been much of an issue in the back, with people posting patches on the mutt list, where most of them get rejected. That was the reason for the original fork.

A year ago I started using muttng (on those machines where I could install it) as an "upgrade" from Mutt. I was happy to dump the slightly awkward and non-MIME-compatible slrn and consolidate my MUA as my news-reader, and also found the sidebar a nice thing to have.

I am not in a state to be active in the development, but I was looking forward for updates to muttng to fix the annoying hangs with NNTP (when waiting for communications with the server, it became inresponsive and sometimes it can take ages just to switch a newsgroup and the like).

I was not happy that there were no updates for so long and was afraid the project was "dead". I just did a Google search on Muttng to look if somebody wrote something about expected updates or if there's some new page continuing the project, and got to this page, where I was happy to read the news that development will continue.

May I suggest that you work with the Mutt team (which seems to not have added much in the last year) to integrate as many of your patches to the "official"/"original" Mutt? Since I suppose the original Mutt still has many more users, you will have more testing for your patches, and more involvement in their development.

I would picture in my imagination that it would work well - Muttng as the more feature-rich "cutting-edge" branch of mutt, and patches being merged into the next released Mutt version when they are mature enough - so that the Muttng patch-set will remain small and maintainable and not grow out of control.

Hope to see some nice new stuff here soon,
Cheers,
For the public domain issue: I took an implementation appearing on a QT-related mailing list: http://lists.trolltech.com/qt-interest/1997-07/msg00158.html. The file derived from it muttng_signal.h generated by signal.pl

Second, there're two helper scripts I wrote plus all the examples for the (rewrite's) manual. And I'm, of course, ok with the license tags...

"we took some minimal implementations from mailing lists or other publicly available archives and silently used them. To tag them as GPL is not correct as by appearing publicly we consider these to be public domain already."

Could you please expand a little upon your reasoning, here? (And perhaps give some examples of the minimal implementations you mean?) Generally speaking, "appearing publicly" isn't justification for assuming that code has been placed in the public domain.

"Also, we put the examples of the manual and some tool scripts under it."

Were these written entirely from scratch by you?

P.S. Mutt-ng rocks - many thanks to yourselves and all the Mutt developers for an outstanding piece of software.
